Future Project Anticipated for 2011
Proposed project: Remodeling, Walk-in Freezer, and related equipment. Funding Needed : $110,316.00 To make a monetary donation toward this project, please be sure to send a note with your donation declaring it be used specifically towards Remodeling.
1. Purchase and installation of an 11 x 25 walk-in freezer, concrete pad, insulation and cutting through a concrete brick wall to create the entrance to the walk-in . Estimated cost: $30,000
The Community Cupboard currently houses ten (10) freezers and two (2) refrigerators. Presently we are capable of housing all our USDA frozen food supply however; we often receive donations of frozen product from the public, i.e.: meats, baked goods, frozen vegetables, fruit and holiday turkey and ham. In previous times we had warehouse space that was donated to us and we took our excess items there; unfortunately the warehouse has closed its doors and we have been unable to find suitable space nearby or at a reasonable cost.
With the purchase of a walk-in freezer we will be able to house our goods on-site and cause less spoilage in transportation. Our operating cost will be less and we will donate eight (8) of our existing freezers to another organization that is in need and retain two (2) freezers to house goods selected for distribution day. We will also acquire three (3) more refrigerators to house refrigerated items such as eggs, butter, cheese, milk and other dairy products that are purchased or donated. This will enable us to receive donations of refrigerated goods throughout the week and store these items appropriately.
2. Remodeling creation of a new client waiting area, client intake station, expansion of Boutique and attaching hallway. Estimated cost: $45,000
Waiting Area Creating the new waiting room will give us a seating capacity of up to forty (40) clients. Our current waiting room has the capacity to hold twenty (20) adult clients. With the creation of the new waiting room all clients, handicapped and children will be able to be comfortably seated, with room for baby strollers and an area outside the pantry entrance for clients to place their shopping carts for filling by the volunteer staff.
Another benefit of the new waiting room is it will give direct access to our visiting nurses station and the Directors office for any issues that may need to be addressed. This area will also provide more comfort by being out of the way of drafts and providing more heating and air conditioning vents.
The Client Intake station will be just outside the waiting room and give a clear view to the intake coordinator for any client who may be handicapped, in need assistance or for clients who need to request a restricted diet.
Expansion of Boutique Once we have the new waiting room established we will turn the smaller waiting area into part of our Boutique. No construction is required but we will require addition shelving, clothing racks and front desk.
Hallway this will connect the new waiting room to our Boutique and create another area of seating for clients that need clothing or household goods. The creation of this hallway will also add an additional wall within our pantry in which we can add shelving units to house special foods for our clients that have restricted diets such as no sugar and low sodium.
3. Computers purchase three (3) computers and update our current system software, volunteer training and network installation for tracking inventory and distribution of product. $10,000.00 4. Air Conditioning Unit - $7,000 We are in need one air conditioning unit with concrete pad for back room that house freezers and refrigerators, and repositioning of current units for more functionality. 5. Update electrical system - $10,000.00 6. Repainting interior/exterior of building - $4300.00 Donations of the following items would be greatly appreciated 7. Steel Shelving $2000.00 8. Pallet Jack - $329.00 For maneuverability ease of skids of product. 9. Hand truck - $369.00 For transport of canned goods from storage to pantry area. 10. Steel packing tables (2) - $698.00 - to create an easy to clean, sanitary area for sorting and inventory of food items, re-packing of large donations of fruit, vegetables and baked goods and assembling groceries on distribution day. 11. Poly Box Truck (2) - 20 bushel capacity - $620.00 for collection of donations until items can be sorted, inventories and put on shelves or into Boutique. |
