Our History

Mattie Dixon our founder

Our organization was founded by Mattie N. Dixon, a longtime resident of Ambler and a true visionary.  In response to learning that people in her community were going hungry, she started serving families out of her basement in 1973.

As word spread of Mattie’s generosity and others joined her efforts, she moved to several other homes for her service, including Zion Baptist Church, Church of the Brethren, and 57 Butler Avenue.

In 2004, with help from the community and the Ambler Rotary Club, Ms. Dixon was able to purchase our current building on Main Street.

Ms. Dixon passed away on April 6, 2017 at the age of 93. We continue to live in her spirit of generosity and care for others in the community.
